This exceptionally clean community lot brings together coffees from 20 small producers organized by Jobino Alberca in and around La Coipa, in the San Ignacio province of Cajamarca in Northern Peru. All together they farm about 30 hectares of Bourbon, Caturra, Typica, and Catimor varieties. Like much of Peru, producers here handle the work end-to-end—picking, processing, and drying their coffee on their own farms—before selling it as parchment for export. The La Coipa group works closely with the specialty team at COINCA, a branch of NKG, and that relationship is a big part of what makes this coffee possible.
Beyond export services, COINCA provides technical assistance and broader support with a real emphasis on sustainable, long-term supply chain relationships and environmental responsibility. The producers in La Coipa have been partnering with COINCA for more than five years, building consistency and quality over time.
In the cup, expect pure comfort: creamy caramel up front, soft brown sugar sweetness, and a bright, clementine-like citrus note that adds depth and lift.
ABOUT THE EXPORTER: COINCA
We were first introduced to COINCA’s work last year through our friend Marjorie Parrilla, who’s now on their trading team. Marjorie has spent years in Peruvian coffee and has deep relationships with small, quality-focused producers across Cajamarca and Amazonas. The way she approaches the work—prioritizing sustainability, investing in real infrastructure and logistics, and leading with a human, respectful style of business—immediately resonated with us.
That connection became even more meaningful when we got to cup the fresh-crop pre-ship sample. The quality was outstanding, and it made the decision easy: we committed to purchasing this La Coipa lot, and we’re genuinely excited to share it with you now.
While this is our first year buying from this particular group, we’re hopeful it’s the beginning of a long-term partnership—one where we can feature their coffees as stand-alone offerings and also as a reliable, core component in our blends in the years ahead. We’ll be highlighting several more lots from small producers this year, and we’re excited to keep building this exporter relationship in Peru.
